The Abia State Government has launched the full rollout of the Abia Connect Card, a cashless payment system for the Green Shuttle Bus Service, as part of efforts to modernise public transportation across the state.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transportation under Governor Alex Otti’s administration, is designed to provide residents with a seamless and convenient commuting experience.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, on the Ministry’s official channels, the government described the rollout as a key milestone in its mission to build a digital, transparent, and efficient transport ecosystem.

The statement noted that the Abia Connect Card, also referred to as the “Abia State Card,” removes the challenges associated with cash payments, such as delays, disputes over change, and potential revenue leakages.

The statement read: “We are deliberately moving away from the hassles of cash transactions. With the Abia Connect Card, commuting is as simple as a single tap. It is efficient, reliable, and designed to ensure that our public transport system serves everyone effectively.”

The government added that the first Abia Connect Card is currently being issued free of charge and can be obtained at designated Green Shuttle terminals and authorised agent locations across Aba and Umuahia.

Residents are required to present their ABSSIN to receive the card, while those without one can register through the Abia Pay portal.
