ADAMAWA MUSLIMS HOLD SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR RAINFALL AMID PROLONGED DRY SPELL

Muslims in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State have offered special prayers for rainfall following a prolonged dry spell that has affected parts of the area and caused crops to wilt.

The prayers were held on Saturday, as residents gathered at various Eid prayer grounds across the local government area to seek divine intervention and relief from the drought.

The worshippers offered two special prayers after days of voluntary fasting, repentance and supplication, seeking Allah’s blessings and an end to the prolonged dry conditions.

At the Central Eid Ground in Hong, the Chief Imam, Saidu Garba, who led the prayers, urged Muslims to shun actions that could attract Allah’s displeasure and to remain steadfast in their faith.

The Executive Chairman of Hong Local Government Council, Aliyu Saad Yerima Hong, was also among the Muslims who participated in the prayer session.

The prolonged dry spell has raised concerns over agricultural production in the area, with Hong regarded as one of the major crop-producing centres in Adamawa State.

Farmers in the expansive local government area cultivate crops including maize, groundnuts, rice and beans on large tracts of farmland.

The area is also home to several large cotton farms owned by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The development has heightened concerns among farmers, who depend heavily on rainfall for the cultivation of their crops.
