ADC ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES DEFECT TO APC, DECLARE SUPPORT FOR TINUBU

Some House of Assembly candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba and Jigawa states have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring their support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The defectors announced their decision during a visit to the APC national secretariat in Abuja, according to a statement by Abimbola Tooki, special adviser to APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Aslam Gambiyar said they were convinced that Tinubu remained capable of advancing Nigeria’s development, prompting their decision to leave the ADC and support his re-election campaign.
Yilwatda welcomed the defectors, saying their decision to set aside their individual political ambitions in favour of what he described as a broader national interest was commendable.
The APC chairman also defended the Tinubu administration’s policies and infrastructure projects, particularly across northern Nigeria. He cited projects including the Abuja–Kano–Maiduguri corridor, Jos–Akwanga and Sokoto–Kebbi roads as examples of ongoing development initiatives.
Yilwatda further argued that reversing key economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, could affect funding for infrastructure projects, gas investments and programmes such as the Nigeria Education Loan Fund.
He said the government’s focus should remain on tackling poverty, creating sustainable economic opportunities and implementing reforms aimed at addressing the country’s economic challenges.
The APC chairman also described the party and federal government as inclusive, pointing to the participation of Nigerians from different regions and religious backgrounds in political and government positions.
Yilwatda said the defection would be communicated to President Tinubu and indicated that he would recommend the new APC members to governors in their respective states for possible roles in ongoing mobilisation efforts.
