TROOPS ELIMINATE 17 BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS IN BORNO COMMUNITIES

In a continued operational achievement against affiliates of Boko Haram/ISWAP militants, the North East Joint Task Force ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ (OPHK) has eliminated 17 members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists taking refuge in the Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, and Biu local government areas of Borno State, extending from Michika in Adamawa State.

The steadfast forces, during the missions, identified and safely detonated more than 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) positioned by the militants in multiple sites, intended to cause harm to innocent civilians and military personnel.

In a press announcement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, on behalf of the Theatre Commander of the North East Joint Task Force OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, on Monday stated: “In our ongoing resolve to restrict Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists’ ability to operate freely, the troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), supported by close air assistance from the Air Component OPHK and the Civilian Joint Task Force, have maintained a series of aggressive operations across the North East Theatre of Operations from July 23 to August 2, 2025.

“The operations, which included combat patrols, ambushes, clearance missions, and logistical disruption operations, extended from Michika Local Government Area (LGA) in Adamawa State, to Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, and Biu LGAs in Borno State.

“This resulted in the incapacitation of numerous terrorists, the retrieval of various weapons and munitions, the identification and safe detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and the confiscation of a significant quantity of the terrorists’ logistical supplies.

“In distinct operations carried out around the general vicinity of Bula Daburu, Alau Dam, Bitta, Kawuri, Algambari, Ajiri, and Bulabulin, among others, the troops neutralised over 17 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, recovered multiple AK-47 rifles, a PKT gun, several AK-47 rifle magazines, and a cache of 7.62mm ammunition. Additional logistical items recovered from the terrorists comprised approximately 2,300 litres of Automated Gas Oil (AGO), over 1,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), two generators, one tricycle, sacks of rice, solar panels, and numerous motorcycles, among other miscellaneous items.

“Importantly, the resilient troops, during these operations, uncovered and safely detonated in excess of 14 Improvised Explosive Devices, which had been placed by the terrorists in various locations to inflict casualties on innocent civilians and military personnel.

“Moreover, during this period, the troops of OPHK successfully facilitated the return of over 987 internally displaced individuals to their ancestral community in Mandaragrau within Biu LGA. This initiative aligns with the Borno State Government’s resettlement plan, aiming to ensure that citizens are not uprooted from their ancestral locales and to promote socio-economic activities. ”

In conjunction, contingents of OPHK performed collaborative missions alongside Nigerien forces in the vicinity of Diffa – Duji – Damasak, enhancing the security and socio-economic endeavors of the broader region.

“The persistent offensive operations, aligned with the mandates of the military leadership, highlight the dedication and resolute initiatives by OPHK to maintain peace in the North East and establish a conducive setting for socio-economic activities to flourish,” stated Kovangiya.
