AMMUNITION DROPS FROM MOVING VEHICLE NEAR ABU ZARIA, PROMPTING SECURITY RESPONSE

By: Adeleke Barakat
Passersby and students at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, were alarmed on Tuesday when several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a moving passenger bus along the Zaria Katsina highway.
According to reports, the incident took place right in front of ABU’s main gate, sparking brief panic among pedestrians and motorists.
One witness, who identified himself as Musa, said the ammunition dropped from a commercial vehicle heading toward Katsina.
“We suddenly saw the bullets fall from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before anyone could react, the vehicle had disappeared,” he said, adding that some bystanders quickly collected the ammunition and alerted security operatives nearby.
Another eyewitness, a student who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as “strange and frightening,” expressing concern that the ammunition could be linked to supplies for armed groups operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina States.
Security personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition.
