The Anambra State Government has condemned in strong terms the assault and harassment of a female corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, by operatives of a local vigilante outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the attack as “a clear violation of the code of conduct guiding the state’s security outfits.” He stressed that all those involved in the incident would face the full weight of the law.
“The government is appalled by the disturbing video circulating online showing some corps members being assaulted and harassed by members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in Oba. We strongly condemn this act of violence and harassment on these young Nigerians, who are serving their country with dedication and patriotism,” the statement read in part.
Dr. Mefor emphasized that Operation Udo Ga-Achi and its sister outfit, Agunechemba, were established under the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 to maintain peace and order, not to intimidate or brutalize citizens. He assured corps members and residents that the state’s security architecture remained committed to protecting lives and property.
The commissioner further commended the prompt intervention of the police and the leadership of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, who have arrested those implicated in the assault. He urged the victims to cooperate with investigators to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.
The viral video, shared by the Haven 360 Foundation on Facebook, showed heavily armed men storming a corps members’ lodge and brutalizing Elohor and some of her colleagues, with the female victim stripped and beaten.
