APC KICKS OFF CAMPAIGN FOR EBONYI LG ELECTIONS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday flagged off its campaign for the August 22 local government elections in Ebonyi State, with party leaders calling for massive grassroots mobilisation and increased voter participation.
The campaign rally, held in Ikwo Local Government Area, brought together APC leaders from across the state, who urged members and supporters to intensify the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to secure victory in all 171 wards and the 13 local government areas.
Presenting the party’s flag to the APC chairmanship candidate for Ikwo LGA, Chidi Nwode, Governor Francis Nwifuru appealed to party members to remain united and work towards ensuring a landslide victory at the polls.
Represented by Deputy Governor Patricia Obila, the governor described the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates as “tested, trusted and marketable.”
He urged supporters to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election.
“We have presented these candidates to you, and it is your responsibility to take them to the communities and make them acceptable to the people. They are the best candidates, so do not be distracted by negative propaganda,” he said.
Nwifuru also commended the outgoing Ikwo Council Chairman, Sunday Nwankwo, for fostering peace, unity and development, noting that his administration had laid a solid foundation for the incoming leadership.
Former Ebonyi State Governor Martin Elechi, who chaired the event, urged political actors to conduct their campaigns peacefully, stressing that elections should not be marked by hostility or violence.
He called on all parties to respect the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate with political parties of their choice and warned against intimidation or attacks based on political affiliation.
Elechi expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious, citing the widespread support enjoyed by the current administration in the state.
Also speaking, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Odunwa, appealed to party faithful to support APC candidates at all levels while urging residents to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.
He also encouraged eligible voters to participate actively in the electoral process.
The lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah, described the rally as the beginning of the party’s statewide political mobilisation.
He urged eligible voters to obtain and protect their PVCs, assuring them that every vote would count.
APC State Chairman Stanley Emegha thanked the people of Ikwo for their continued support, saying the turnout reflected the party’s growing acceptance across the state.
