ATIKU’S AIDE CHALLENGES TINUBU OVER TARABA KILLINGS, QUESTIONS SECURITY PRIORITIES

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Bola Tinubu over his administration’s security priorities following a reported attack that claimed at least 40 lives in Taraba State.
Ibe questioned why the protection of Nigerian lives had not received greater urgency, arguing that the President’s leadership should be measured by the safety of citizens rather than the number of campaign rallies he attends.
In a post on X, Ibe recalled Tinubu’s October 14 assurance that governance would remain his priority during the election campaign.
He said the President’s commitment should be reflected in concrete efforts to protect Nigerians, particularly amid reports of deadly attacks in parts of the country.
The criticism followed an attack on Binnari village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State on October 23, which reportedly left at least 40 people dead, according to figures attributed to Amnesty International.
Ibe said the attack had resulted in the looting of shops, the burning of homes and the displacement of families who were forced to flee their communities.
He also questioned the timing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign flag-off in Kaduna, given that residents of Binnari were mourning those killed in the attack.
According to him, expressions of sympathy from government officials must be accompanied by urgent and practical measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further violence.
“Condolences cannot substitute for protection,” Ibe wrote, calling for immediate security intervention, assistance for survivors and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
The ADC chieftain’s aide further argued that the President’s campaign schedule should not overshadow the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.
“Attending fewer rallies is a scheduling decision. Protecting Nigerians is the test of leadership,” he stated.
Ibe concluded his criticism with a direct question to the President over the government’s response to the reported killings.
“Mr President, where is the urgency to secure Nigerian lives?” he asked.
His remarks have added to the political debate over security and the government’s response to deadly attacks as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
