Comedian and performer Ayo “AY” Makun has refuted claims indicating that he is seeking to reconcile with his separated spouse, Mabel, over a year following their division.

The pair, who united in matrimony in 2008, publicly announced their separation in April 2024, concluding a 16-year union. Their relationship had previously encountered speculation in 2016, when it was reported that Mabel had vacated their Lekki residence, and again in 2017 when she openly requested a Lagos socialite to maintain distance from her husband. Both individuals denied the allegations at the time.

AY, 54, eventually confirmed the collapse of their marriage in a 2024 Instagram post. While the separation was kept largely private, recent online reports claimed that the comedian, alongside family members, had approached Mabel to seek reconciliation.

In a statement disseminated on Instagram on Thursday, the comedian addressed the unfounded speculations, labeling the reports as inaccurate and deceitful.

“My attention has been drawn to a series of false, persistent, and callous social media posts implying that I am experiencing regret and seeking reconciliation in my previous relationship. These publications are intentionally deceptive, crafted to mislead the public, and aimed solely at generating traffic and engagement.

“For clarification, I have never approved or made any such remarks. If I choose to express my personal stance on any issue, I possess the platform, the audience, and the credibility to do so directly, rather than through anonymous blogs and rumor-driven outlets,” he articulated.

AY further cautioned that legal action would be pursued against those disseminating such narratives.

“This serves as a final admonition: all such erroneous accounts should be disregarded by the public. Going forward, the necessary legal actions will be initiated against individuals, blogs, or platforms that persist in publishing, promoting, or circulating these defamatory claims. Enough of the falsehoods,” he asserted.

The comedian and Mabel are parents to two daughters, Michelle and Ayomide.
