Barcelona have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign winger Anthony Gordon in a deal worth £69.3m (€80m) inclusive of add-ons.

The England international is scheduled to fly to Spain on Thursday to undergo his medical examination before finalizing the blockbuster move ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

While Bayern Munich were previously heavily linked with the winger, they are not planning a rival bid despite their earlier interest in pairing him with Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz.

The transfer comes despite Gordon finishing the season as Newcastle’s top goalscorer with 18 goals.

Notably, he was left as an unused substitute in the Magpies’ final four matches—a tactical decision by the club to protect his fitness ahead of the expected move.

Gordon had only recently signed a long-term contract extension at St James’ Park in October 2024, leaving four years on his deal. However, Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson admitted earlier this year that the club would need to sell major assets to fund their own summer recruitment.

The impending arrival of Gordon throws the future of current Barcelona loanee Marcus Rashford into sharp focus.

The Manchester United loanee has made it clear he wants to remain at Barcelona next season and is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to make it happen.

Manchester United are refusing to negotiate another loan deal and believe their £26m option-to-buy price is more than fair.

With Gordon arriving, Rashford may now view the World Cup as a crucial audition to convince Hansi Flick and the Barcelona hierarchy to keep him.
