BAUCHI SOUTH SENATOR DENIES BANDITRY, SEEKS DSS INVESTIGATION

The senator who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has willingly gone to security agencies for an investigation because of claims that he is connected to banditry, terrorism funding, and kidnapping.

He shared this information on Monday during a meeting with reporters, political figures, and people from his community in Bauchi.
During this meeting, he denied the accusations and told those making the claims to provide solid proof to the right authorities.

A statement from his Media and Communication Special Adviser, Sabo Mohammed, says that his legal team, headed by former Nigerian Bar Association president, Chief Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, has made him available to the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Defence Intelligence Agency for their investigation.

He stated that he has never supported, funded, armed, or helped bandits, terrorists, or kidnappers.
He called the accusations a politically driven effort to damage his reputation, which he said started in 2014 and has gotten worse as he prepares to run for governor of Bauchi State in 2027 through the Peoples Redemption Party.

Mohammed said, “According to the senator, he has, through his legal team led by former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, made himself available to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

“He maintained that he has never sponsored, financed, armed, facilitated or supported bandits, terrorists, kidnappers or any criminal organisation, describing the allegations as politically motivated attempts to damage his reputation and undermine his political career.”

Buba urged his accusers to submit any evidence to security agencies rather than circulate what he called edited videos and unverified claims on social media.

He also talked about his old job as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, saying that some of his official activities were wrongly portrayed as signs of wrongdoings.

The senator mentioned that his legal team had started legal actions for defamation in the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Also, a formal request was sent to INTERPOL about one of his accusers, who is believed to be based in Niger Republic.

He asked his supporters to stay calm and not engage in violence, revenge, or online attacks against his critics.
He also said he supports a “transparent, thorough, and impartial” investigation.
