BENUE ATTACK: VDM ALLEGES VIDEO FUELED TENSIONS BEFORE DEADLY RAID

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has alleged that a video sent to him by some Fulani individuals may have contributed to the events that preceded the recent deadly attack in Otukpo, Benue State.
Suspected armed herders reportedly attacked Akpachi village and the Otukpo-Nobi community in Otukpo Local Government Area on Sunday, leaving at least 50 people dead.
The attack is believed to be linked to tensions surrounding the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Mohammed.
Mohammed was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen on June 26, 2026, after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting to the latest violence, VDM said in a post on his official Facebook page that some Fulani herders had contacted him and forwarded a video showing an Idoma social media influencer allegedly celebrating the release of individuals arrested in connection with Mohammed’s killing.
According to him, the video may have played a role in escalating tensions that eventually resulted in the reprisal attack.
“I woke up to the heartbreaking news that Fulani attackers invaded a community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State and killed many residents,” he said.
VDM stated that dozens of bodies had already been recovered and suggested that the attack was carried out in retaliation for the killing of the MACBAN chairman.
He further claimed that the video sent to him by members of the Fulani community appeared to be one of the factors that fueled anger before the incident.
Reports indicate that more than 50 bodies have been recovered from the affected communities, while several injured victims are receiving medical treatment.
