Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
Dawaki, who previously represented a constituency in Kano State in the House of Representatives, joined the opposition party a week after losing the APC ticket for the 2027 elections through a consensus arrangement.
His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a leader of the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Hassan stated that Dawaki’s move to the party was formalised at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano.
He added that the NDC leader received Dawaki into the Kwankwasiyya movement during the meeting, as part of ongoing political realignments in Kano State ahead of future elections.
The development comes amid internal consultations within the NDC on candidate selection for various elective positions in the state, with uncertainty still surrounding Dawaki’s chances of securing an automatic ticket.
