US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the public will be able to watch the execution of former US Army Major Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people in a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

The execution, scheduled for December 3, 2026, will be carried out by firing squad at the military base where the attack occurred.

Hegseth made the announcement during an interview with Real America’s Voice, saying the public should understand that there are serious consequences for such crimes.

A Pentagon official subsequently confirmed that the execution would be livestreamed, adding that further details would be released.

Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, was sentenced to death in 2013 after a military jury found him guilty of the deadly shooting, which also left 32 people injured.

The planned execution would mark the first time the US military has used a firing squad for an execution since 1945.

However, details on how the livestream would be made available to the public have yet to be announced.
