CARRICK REVEALS RASHFORD’S FITNESS CONCERN AFTER EVERTON DRAW

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has disclosed that Marcus Rashford was substituted during the club’s 2-2 draw against Everton on Sunday after the forward complained of feeling some discomfort.
Rashford started the Premier League encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium and was replaced in the 70th minute following an energetic display.
Explaining the decision after the match, Carrick said Rashford had been “feeling a bit of something.”
The England international had posed a significant threat to Everton during his time on the pitch, with Carrick praising his performance and saying the forward looked sharp after returning to the team.
“Yeah, he’s done very well. As I said during the week, he’s done ever so well since he came back. I thought he looked really sharp again today and dangerous,” Carrick said.
He added that although Rashford was unable to make the most of some opportunities, his overall contribution was impressive.
“That final little moment didn’t quite drop for him, but nevertheless, I thought he created really good opportunities, and there was a big threat throughout the game.”
United twice took the lead but were unable to secure victory after Everton fought back to earn a point.
Bryan Mbeumo put Manchester United ahead before Tyrique George restored parity for the hosts. Benjamin Šeško then returned the lead to United, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck late to ensure Everton shared the points.
Carrick admitted the outcome was difficult to accept, particularly after United had been in a strong position to claim all three points.
“We’re disappointed, bitterly disappointed. To be up in the position we were in, [leading] the game twice and so close to the end,” he said.
The United boss acknowledged that although the team had earned a point, the result felt like a defeat.
The draw also highlighted United’s defensive shortcomings, with the club conceding two goals for the third time this season.
Carrick admitted his side needed to become more defensively solid if they were to improve their chances of winning matches.
“The mentality is there. I think there’s obviously things we need to get better at as a team,” he said.
He noted that both Everton goals came from long-range efforts and acknowledged that United would review their defensive performance.
“But yeah, obviously we can’t ignore it. We need to concede less goals to give us a better chance of winning games, but we’ll certainly look at that and keep improving.”
Despite United collecting four points from their opening three league matches, Carrick dismissed suggestions that the team had endured a poor start to the campaign.
“We haven’t started the season that bad, to be honest,” he said.
Carrick maintained that United were close to taking maximum points against Everton and expressed confidence that the team would improve.
“We were a lot closer to coming away with three points today. That’s football, there are moments that we can deal with a bit better, but we’ll be fine.”
Carrick also praised the combination between Rashford and Luke Shaw, who linked up effectively on United’s left side.
He said the pair’s familiarity helped them develop a strong understanding and create problems for Everton.
“I think you’re trying to build those partnerships and combinations throughout the team, really, and they’ve played together for quite some time now and have an understanding,” Carrick said.
The manager also highlighted United’s attacking play through the centre of the pitch and praised the threat created by Mbeumo on the right and the Rashford-Shaw partnership on the left.
United will now prepare for their upcoming fixtures, with Carrick expected to focus on improving the team’s defensive organisation while maintaining the attacking quality displayed against Everton.
