GROUP RAISES CONCERN, CALLS FOR ACTION ON RISING PROSTRATE CANCER IN BLACK MEN
HOTJIST NEWS In order to address the growing number of prostate cancer cases worldwide, the Inclusive Cancer Care Research Equity Consortium for Black Men has called for a united front. The appeal was made during Wednesday's "United Against Prostate Cancer" one-day Prostate Cancer Summit in Lokoja. The summit, which was organized in collaboration with the Urology Unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, coincided with the global Men's Health Awareness Month, according to Dr. Ayodeji Ogunmola, a consultant urologist and ICCARE Lokoja representative. "The summit would give men a secure place to talk about their experiences, dispel stigmas, ask questions, and get knowledge from professionals," Ogunmola stated. "We are not just talking about awareness in the abstract; we are developing a community, right here in Lokoja," he said, praising the bravery of men who are dealing with prostate cancer. Facing uncertainty requires fortitude, and seeking connection while battling prostate cancer requires even more strength. Ogunmola emphasized the value of routine examinations and cautioned that the increased number of black men developing prostate cancer was a result of inadequate screenings. FTHL's Acting Chief Medical Director, Dr. Ojochide Ebune, praised the organizers for tackling a problem that impacts human dignity. “Men should take advantage of the summit’s resources, including talks by expert doctors and healthcare...
