CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: UEFA FIXES SEPTEMBER 2 DEADLINE FOR SQUAD REGISTRATION

UEFA has fixed September 2, 2026, as the deadline for clubs to submit their List A squads for the 2026/27 Champions League league phase, with each team permitted to register a maximum of 25 players.
According to information published by UEFA on Monday, clubs must submit their List A squads, which must then be verified and approved by their respective national associations, by 11:59 p.m. CET on Wednesday, September 2.
The governing body said clubs must adhere to the 25-player limit and meet the requirement for locally trained players when submitting their squads.
UEFA stated that at least eight of the 25 slots must be reserved for locally trained players, with no more than four association-trained players allowed within those slots.
It added that clubs with fewer than eight locally trained players would have their maximum squad size reduced accordingly.
UEFA classifies locally trained players into two categories: club-trained players who spent at least three full seasons or 36 months registered with a club between the ages of 15 and 21, and association-trained players who spent the same period with one or more clubs affiliated with the same national association.
Clubs can also register an unlimited number of eligible players on List B during the season. List B can be updated throughout the campaign and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CET on the day before the relevant match.
Under the rules, players born on or after January 1, 2005, may qualify for List B if they have been continuously eligible for the club for two years from their 15th birthday, or for three consecutive years with a maximum one-year loan at a club from the same association.
Sixteen-year-old players may also qualify if they have been registered with their club continuously for the previous two years.
UEFA also permits players who featured for another club during the qualifying rounds of its three men’s club competitions to represent a different club in the Champions League from the league phase.
Clubs that reach the knockout phase will be allowed to add up to three new players to their squads by 11:59 p.m. CET on February 4, 2027, while the overall 25-player limit and locally trained-player requirement will remain in effect.
The 2026/27 Champions League league phase is scheduled to begin on September 8, 2026, with the final set to take place at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid on June 5, 2027.
