COURT DISMISSES INJUNCTION AGAINST RIVERS CHIEF JUDGE, WIKE’S FACTION CELEBRATES

By: Fasasi Hammad
Supporters of Nyesom Wike in the Rivers State Assembly have received a boost, as the State High Court in Oyigbo declined to grant a perpetual injunction that would have barred Chief Judge Chibuzor Simeon Amadi from acting on impeachment notices against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Ordu.
The development was confirmed in a statement by Lere Olayinka, media aide to Wike.
Olayinka explained that the presiding judge held that the court could not issue the injunction, noting that the matter is already under review at the Court of Appeal. Consequently, the case was adjourned indefinitely, pending the appellate court’s decision.

This ruling effectively puts the High Court’s involvement on hold until the appeal resolves the legal questions surrounding the impeachment process.
It is recalled that Justice Amadi had earlier refused to constitute a seven-member panel to handle the Assembly’s impeachment proceedings, citing existing court orders.
The Rivers Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Mudashiru Amaewhule, had served Governor Fubara with an impeachment notice and confirmed that the Chief Judge received the documents.
