Nigerian music star, Davido, has engaged in a heated exchange on social media after a user criticised his comments on the state of the nation and the role of entertainers in speaking out on issues affecting Nigerians.

The controversy began after Davido shared a post on his official social media page, expressing concern over the level of injustice in the country and admitting that entertainers, including himself, had not done enough to advocate for the welfare of citizens.

According to the singer, public figures in the entertainment industry have a responsibility to speak up on issues affecting the populace.

The post sparked reactions from followers, including a user identified as Princess Luna, who questioned the sincerity of Davido’s remarks and accused him of being disingenuous.

In response, the award-winning singer rejected claims that he belonged to any political group and defended his record of commenting on national issues.

Davido stated that he had previously criticised the government during international media appearances and recalled facing backlash from some Nigerians for doing so.

He further clarified that his personal relationship with certain political figures did not prevent him from raising concerns about governance and national issues whenever necessary.

The exchange has since generated widespread reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the role of celebrities in political discourse and national advocacy.

The incident adds to ongoing conversations about the responsibility of influential public figures to speak on governance, economic hardship and social justice issues affecting Nigerians.
