Speaking during an episode of *The Long Form Podcast*, the award-winning singer stressed the importance of ownership in the music business, describing it as a critical aspect of an artist’s long-term success.
Davido explained that his goal is to regain ownership of his music catalogue and eventually transfer the rights and royalty earnings to his children.
According to him, while he currently enjoys a favourable recording contract, ownership of intellectual property remains his top priority.
The singer noted that acquiring his masters would enable him to assign individual songs to his children, allowing them to continue earning royalties from the catalogue long after he retires from active music-making.
Davido also urged artists to pay close attention to the business side of the entertainment industry, emphasizing that financial planning and ownership are just as important as creative success.
His comments add to the growing conversation within the global music industry about artists’ rights, ownership of master recordings, and the long-term value of music catalogues.
