The Plateau State Government has reactivated isolation centres, intensified public awareness campaigns and strengthened disease surveillance as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola into the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Ba’amlong, disclosed this during a press briefing, adding that the government had directed its emergency preparedness team to assess safety measures at the airport and alert local government areas bordering neighbouring states.

Ba’amlong urged residents to maintain proper hygiene and avoid direct contact with anyone suspected of being infected with the virus.

“Maintain good hygiene, wash your hands regularly and avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected infected persons,” he advised.

The commissioner also called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases to health authorities, stressing that public cooperation was essential to preventing the disease from spreading.

The measures were announced alongside 10 resolutions adopted at the 12th Plateau State Council on Health meeting held last week.

According to Ba’amlong, the resolutions include the establishment of a state health trust fund, improved disease surveillance, measures to address shortages of healthcare workers and the creation of an emergency fund to tackle public health threats.

He said the initiatives were designed to strengthen the state’s preparedness for disease outbreaks and improve healthcare delivery to residents.

The commissioner reiterated the need for residents to comply with public health guidelines and report suspected cases promptly to the appropriate authorities.
