Suspected Fulani bandits have reportedly killed eight residents of Mbwelle Village in Kwatas District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, in what authorities describe as a fresh wave of reprisal attacks.

The assault is said to have taken place around 10:30 p.m. on April 9, according to security sources.

Details of the incident were shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who focuses on counter-insurgency efforts in the Lake Chad region.

The victims have been identified as Habila Istifanus (38), Hassan Istifanus (31), Iliya Mangut (70), Sunday Gideon (31), Innocent Banabas (20), Lucky Titus (38), Wisdom Lucky (15), and Bwehsun Hassan (25).

Joint security personnel reportedly responded after receiving a distress call but arrived after the attackers had fled.

A source within the security team linked the delayed response to the approximately 15-kilometre distance between the military base and the village, along with challenging terrain.

All victims, including the injured, were taken to Bokkos Cottage Hospital for treatment.

Security forces have since commenced operations to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
