EKITI COLLABORATES WITH GROUP TO IMPROVE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE ACCESS

The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare services for women and girls across the state.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said continuous training and retraining of healthcare workers remained central to the government’s efforts to improve health outcomes and achieve Universal Health Coverage.
Filani, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olusola Gbenga-Igotun, stated this in Ado Ekiti on Monday at the closing ceremony of a five-day training programme for healthcare providers organised in collaboration with Onelife Initiative.
He said the partnership was aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring that women had access to reliable information and quality reproductive health services to enable them make informed decisions about their health.
Filani said the state government was committed to ensuring that no woman suffered or died from preventable reproductive health complications.
He added that equipping healthcare workers with the necessary skills and expanding access to reproductive health information and services would contribute to building a healthier Ekiti State.
The commissioner said the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji would continue to ensure that women, regardless of their age, location or background, had access to accurate information, quality healthcare services and respectful care.
Earlier, the Director of Public Health, Dr Abayomi Ibrahim, said doctors, nurses and pharmacists from various levels of healthcare delivery participated in the training.
He explained that the participants were exposed to current methods, tools and drug supplies required for effective reproductive healthcare delivery.
The Executive Director of Onelife Initiative, Sola Fagorusi, commended the state government for its commitment to the programme and pledged the organisation’s continued partnership to expand the initiative across the state’s 16 local government areas.
Fagorusi said the training was designed to equip healthcare providers with updated knowledge, skills and counselling techniques for delivering comprehensive, rights-based and non-judgmental reproductive health services.
He added that the programme would also help reduce maternal deaths associated with unsafe abortions.
The Ekiti State Adolescent Health Officer, Mrs Tolulope Adewemimo, who spoke on behalf of the participants, expressed appreciation to the state government and Onelife Initiative, saying the knowledge gained would improve service delivery and enhance client satisfaction across health facilities in the state.
