The Enugu State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged kidnapping and killing of a five-year-old boy, Obodoagu Wisdom, who was reportedly murdered by his second cousin.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, identified the suspects as Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, 18, and Sunday Michael, 24, a security guard. They were arrested on August 11 and 12, 2025, following intelligence reports after ransom demands were made.

According to Ndukwe, the prime suspect, Wisdom, conspired with his accomplice to demand a ransom of N1 million from the victim’s father. When the ransom was not paid, he allegedly killed the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.

“The child was first reported missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that the prime suspect used his accomplice to make ransom demands in an attempt to conceal his identity. When the ransom was not met, he murdered the child and buried him nearby,” Ndukwe said.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and led operatives to the scene, where the boy’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor who certified him dead.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, condoled with the grieving family and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
