By: Adeleke Barakat
NNEWI A fire on Wednesday razed a factory in Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi North LGA, Anambra State, destroying property and goods valued at billions of naira.
An eyewitness, Mr. Obinna Okoye, a nearby resident, said the fire took everyone by surprise as most people were still asleep. He praised the prompt response of firefighters who quickly arrived at the scene.
“The fire service personnel are still working to extinguish the blaze. You know how flammable pampers and tissue papers can be,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Jeremiah Anwuobi, Commander of the Fire Service for Nnewi Zone F Machine Parts, stated that the fire had been brought under control. He added that no casualties were reported, although the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Mr. Chikelu Edwin, a staff member in the company’s Audit Department, described the fire as mysterious, pointing out that there was no electricity supply in the area where the fire started, leaving employees puzzled about how the blaze began.
