No fewer than five persons were confirmed dead in a road accident along the Akure–Ado Ekiti Expressway at Ita Ogbolu, headquarters of Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The crash, which occurred on Sunday, involved a truck and a commercial bus. A viral video posted on Facebook by Bola Awofisayo showed the lifeless bodies of victims laid by the roadside, while the bus driver was trapped behind one of the vehicles.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Samuel Ibitoye, said the collision was caused by speeding on a road currently under construction.

“Five people died in the accident, including two male adults, a female adult, and two female children. It was caused by speeding occasioning a head-on collision,” Ibitoye explained.

He urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to avoid needless tragedies.

The incident comes weeks after a similar accident on September 2 at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road in Lagos claimed one life, with two others fatally injured.
