FOUR KILLED AS CLASH ERUPTS IN LAGOS COMMUNITY

Four people have been killed following a disagreement that escalated into communal unrest at Power Line Bus Stop, Ikola, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, also left several people injured and led to the destruction of some makeshift structures in the community.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the deaths in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
According to LASEMA, it received a distress call about a fire outbreak in the area at about 1:52 pm and deployed its response team, which arrived approximately 25 minutes later.
“Preliminary assessment and engagement with residents at the scene indicate that the incident followed a disagreement that escalated into communal unrest,” the agency said.
It added that four adult males lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries.
Emergency medical assistance was provided to the injured by the Agbado Oke-Odo Ambulance Service, the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other health responders.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also brought the fire under control and carried out damping-down operations to prevent further spread.
A joint security operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps was deployed to restore order and protect lives and property.
LASEMA said normalcy had been restored in Ikola and neighbouring communities, although security personnel remained on the ground to prevent further unrest.
The agency urged residents to remain calm, avoid reprisals and refrain from spreading unverified information that could worsen tensions.
It added that an investigation had commenced to determine the immediate and remote causes of the clash, with anyone found culpable expected to face the law.
