A former member of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps has appealed for public support after a road accident in 2021 left her paralysed and battling severe health complications.

Eniola, whose story gained widespread attention through a viral TikTok video shared by a friend, recounted how the accident occurred while she was returning home from the NYSC orientation camp in Akwa Ibom State after falling ill.

According to her, she had spent about two weeks in camp before being advised to return home for medical reasons. However, tragedy struck during the journey when the vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a crash.

Eniola said she was the sole survivor of the accident but sustained a serious spinal cord injury that permanently altered her life.

The injury, she explained, left her paralysed from the chest downward, with no sensation or movement in her legs.

Nearly five years after the incident, she said she remains unable to walk and has also endured complications, including persistent bedsores.

The former corps member revealed that her search for treatment has been marked by disappointment, alleging that several individuals who claimed they could treat spinal cord injuries failed to deliver on their promises.

She said some of the people she consulted lacked the expertise required to manage her condition and ultimately left her without the help she desperately needed.

Eniola further disclosed that one of her toes was eventually amputated and that she now experiences recurring electric shock-like sensations in her leg.

Beyond the physical challenges, she said the emotional burden of living with paralysis has been immense, though she remains thankful for surviving the accident.

Describing her survival as a second chance at life, she expressed optimism that her condition could improve with the right treatment and rehabilitation.

She appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance to support her ongoing medical care, saying her greatest wish is to regain the ability to walk.

According to her, even the opportunity to walk slowly would be life-changing, adding that she would remain forever grateful to everyone who contributes toward making that dream a reality.
