INEC CONFIRMS 16 POLITICAL PARTIES FOR NOVEMBER 8 ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
Agency Report
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 16 out of the 19 registered political parties in Nigeria will participate in the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
According to a statement released in Awka on Thursday by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the confirmation follows the conclusion of the nomination process and publication of candidate particulars as mandated by law. The commission noted that only parties that submitted their nominations by the May 12 deadline qualified to contest in the election.
Olumekun also revealed that no party nominated a candidate living with a disability, while the age of the candidates ranges from 36 to 71 years. He emphasized that the final list of candidates, including their details, has been uploaded to the INEC website and social media platforms for public access.
He reiterated that the deadline for withdrawal and substitution of candidates elapsed on June 2, and no changes will be accepted except in the case of death, in accordance with Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.
Campaigns by political parties are scheduled to begin on June 11 and will end at midnight on November 6. INEC urged all parties and candidates to respect the law and ensure equal access to public facilities, media, and advertising spaces. The commission also cautioned against the abuse of incumbency, affirming that the use of state resources to confer advantage or disadvantage to any party or candidate is prohibited under the Electoral Act.
INEC expressed optimism that the election will proceed as planned and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible process.
