The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to release an updated list of candidates for the 2027 general elections following the completion of its review process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), disclosed this on Tuesday in Gombe while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of an interactive session with the commission’s staff from the North-East zone.
Amupitan explained that the review was aimed at addressing complaints submitted to the commission, including errors in candidates’ names and cases of double nominations.
He said the commission had allowed a maximum of 14 days for the review before making the revised list public.
“Usually, when a list is published, there may be errors, including misspelt names. We have also received complaints of double nominations,” he said.
The INEC chairman added that the updated list would be released shortly after the review process was concluded.
The announcement comes as the commission intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with efforts to ensure the accuracy of candidates’ details ahead of the polls.
