JIGAWA POLICE ARREST THREE SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS, RECOVER 5,676 ILLICIT SUBSTANCES

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered 5,676 pieces of assorted illicit substances during an intelligence-led operation aimed at tackling drug trafficking across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Dutse, saying the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale, distribution and abuse of prohibited drugs.
According to him, the suspects were arrested during coordinated raids based on credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in illicit drug activities.
The suspects were identified as Umar Rabiu, popularly known as Sarka, 22, of Unguwar Gamji; Auwalu Muhammad, 25, of Gusau Quarters; and Umar Akilu, 25, of Kuka Village.
Adam said exhibits recovered from the suspects included 3,833 Exol tablets, 204 Tramadol tablets, 919 Diazepam tablets and 114 Pregabalin capsules.
He added that operatives also recovered 101 tubes of rubber solution, 30 Lara capsules, bottles of codeine syrup, two litres of a substance locally known as “Suck and Die,” as well as one block and 475 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).
The police also recovered N93,626, believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
Adam said the arrests were part of the command’s sustained crackdown on criminal networks involved in the trafficking and distribution of prohibited substances across Jigawa State.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police as commending the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, noting that drug trafficking and substance abuse remain major drivers of violent crime and other social vices, particularly among young people.
The commissioner warned individuals involved in the sale, distribution or consumption of illicit drugs to desist or face the full weight of the law, stressing that the command would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking networks.
Adam disclosed that the three suspects have been arraigned in court and assured that the command would ensure all those found culpable are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
