JOBE BELLINGHAM OPENS UP ON PRESSURE OF FOLLOWING BROTHER JUDE’S FOOTSTEPS AT DORTMUND

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham has admitted to feeling “anxieties” about living up to the legacy of his older brother, Jude Bellingham, after joining the German club this summer.

Jobe, 19, signed with Dortmund in June from Sunderland following their promotion to the Premier League. His move comes two years after Jude, now a Real Madrid star and England international, left Dortmund after a successful three-year spell that elevated him to global stardom.

Speaking to reporters at Dortmund’s pre-season training camp in Austria, Jobe revealed that he was aware of the expectations surrounding his transfer.

“It’s something you do think about. You have these anxieties, especially me as I’m only young,” he said. “I’m not perfect. I do think about these things, but that was down to the club convincing me that these things wouldn’t have much bearing on me.”

He added, “This was a decision I made and it’s for myself. My journey is not anyone else’s to understand.”

Jobe has already made his debut for Dortmund in the Club World Cup in the United States, where he impressed with a goal and an assist across four games.

To distinguish himself from his famous sibling, Jobe wears his first name on the back of his shirt a choice he carried over from his time at Sunderland.

He also shared his brother’s reaction to the move: “Jude was extremely proud he didn’t have much to say other than ‘embrace it’. Our conversations aren’t usually that serious.”

A more reserved figure than his brother, Jobe described himself as a hardworking player focused on performance rather than fame. “I don’t want to be a superstar… I don’t want to be a big character away from the pitch. When I play I just want to be one of the highest performing players and get my head down.”

Dortmund will begin their competitive season against Rot-Weiss Essen in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on August 18.
