JONATHAN’S PRESIDENTIAL BID IS A CALL TO SERVE, NOT PERSONAL AMBITION — PDP FACTION

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki has said former President Goodluck Jonathan is being urged by Nigerians to return to the presidential race, insisting that his potential candidacy is driven by public demand rather than personal ambition.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made the remark on Saturday while speaking with journalists after the group declared Jonathan its presidential candidate in absentia.
According to Ememobong, Nigeria needs a leader capable of fostering national healing, reconciliation and rebuilding, and he believes Jonathan is best positioned to provide such leadership.
“At this critical point in the nation’s history, Goodluck Jonathan’s possible return is not about personal ambition but a response to the calls of many Nigerians,” he said.
He added that the country requires a period of healing, restoration and nation-building over the next four years, arguing that Jonathan possesses the temperament and experience needed to lead that process.
Despite the endorsement, Jonathan has yet to publicly indicate whether he intends to contest the 2027 presidential election.
