KANO APC DISMISSES KWANKWASIYYA’S DEFECTION CLAIMS

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that some of its members in Kumbotso Local Government Area defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that its members remain united and loyal to the party.
The party described the reports as a fabrication by the Kwankwasiyya movement, alleging that they were intended to divert public attention from its internal challenges.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Auwalu Soja, said those reportedly involved in the alleged defections were unknown to the party’s leadership in Kumbotso.
According to him, APC members and stakeholders in the area remain satisfied with the infrastructural projects being executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the Kaduna–Kano–Maradi standard gauge railway, both of which pass through parts of the local government.
Soja also said party members appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for attracting major investment opportunities to Kumbotso aimed at boosting economic growth and creating jobs for young people.
He urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to focus on addressing its internal issues instead of engaging in what he described as baseless propaganda.
“The average Kano voter can no longer entrust their future to the political gimmicks and selfish interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement,” he said, alleging that the NDC was established to serve the interests of a few individuals.
The APC called on residents to ignore reports circulating on social media suggesting that its members had defected to the NDC, maintaining that the party remains strong and firmly established in Kumbotso.
The statement followed social media reports alleging that several APC members in Kumbotso Local Government Area had joined the NDC.
Responding to the APC’s claims, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, insisted that defections from the APC to the NDC were continuing across Kano State.
He accused the APC leadership of refusing to acknowledge the reality of the situation, arguing that photographic evidence supported the reported defections.
“The APC leadership in the state has refused to accept reality. The defection of APC members to the NDC is a daily occurrence, and the pictures speak for themselves,” Mohammed said.
