KATSINA POLICE ARREST 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN OVER ALLEGED KILLING OF 97-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, over the alleged killing of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, following a domestic dispute in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 12, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., after an argument broke out between the suspect and the deceased.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq.
According to the statement, the case was reported at Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect’s father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, aged 39.
The police said preliminary findings revealed that the disagreement escalated, leading to the suspect allegedly striking the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair.
“The Katsina State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Aisha Muktar Hassan, female, aged 20, suspected to be connected with the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“On June 12, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., one Muktar Muhammad Hassan reported at Sabon Garin Daura Police Station that earlier that same day, at about 7:00 p.m., his daughter had a misunderstanding with her grandmother. During the altercation, the suspect struck the victim on the head with a wooden chair,” the statement read.
Police operatives were said to have responded immediately after receiving the report and found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
The command further disclosed that the suspect was arrested during the investigation and allegedly confessed to the offence.
She remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police added that further updates on the case would be communicated in due course.
