A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot his girlfriend, identified as Woman Corporal Grace, dead before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths have yet to be independently verified.
According to a source cited by SaharaReporters, the officer, identified as Corporal Amos, resumed night-duty station guard at about 6 p.m. but allegedly abandoned his post hours later and went to Grace’s quarters.
The source claimed that Amos shot Grace several times before turning the weapon on himself.
Grace reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg.
Although the motive for the incident has not been officially established, the source linked the tragedy to alleged relationship problems between the two officers.
The source said the couple had been dating for several years but began experiencing trust issues and allegations of infidelity in recent months.
Their disagreements reportedly escalated into physical altercations and threats, prompting the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) to detain them at one point and advise them to end the relationship to prevent further conflict.
Recounting the incident, the source said Amos left his duty post and went to Grace’s quarters, where he allegedly killed her before taking his own life.
The source added that the couple’s relationship had become increasingly troubled due to persistent disagreements over trust and alleged cheating.
As of the time of filing this report, further details surrounding the incident, including official confirmation of the deaths and the recovery of the firearm, remained unavailable.
The Kogi State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
