KWARA POLICE RESCUE KIDNAPPED MONARCH, TWO OTHERS, KILL SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER

The Kwara State Police Command has rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi, Oba Moses Omotayo, and two other victims who were kidnapped by gunmen in Igbesi community, Isin Local Government Area of the state.
The monarch and the two victims were reportedly abducted on August 22, 2026, following an attack on the community.
According to the police, the victims were rescued during a security operation around the Elerin/Ijomu-Oro axis.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi.
Ejire-Adeyemi said the operation commenced after a report was received around 10am at Oro Police Station from a vigilante member identified as Abdul, who reported that one of his colleagues had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand while operating in the bush around Elerin/Ijomu-Oro.
Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer of Oro Police Station led a joint team of police officers, military personnel and vigilantes to the area.
The suspected kidnappers reportedly opened fire after sighting the advancing security team, resulting in an exchange of gunfire during which one of the suspects was neutralised.
The remaining members of the gang fled into the surrounding terrain but were pursued by the security team.
The operation eventually led to the rescue of the Onigbesi and the two other victims, identified as Maryam Abubakar and Aisha Ilyasu.
The rescued victims were taken to a hospital for medical attention and were said to be in stable condition.
The police attributed the successful operation to intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration and a rapid security response.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers and other security personnel involved in the operation.
The command added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the kidnapping gang, while security operations had been intensified across identified flashpoints in the state.
The police assured residents that there would be no safe haven for kidnappers and other violent criminals in Kwara, urging members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
The rescue comes days after reports that gunmen invaded Igbesi community on August 22 and abducted the traditional ruler after firing shots during the attack.
