LAGOS COURT JAILS 13 FOR THREE MONTHS OVER ILLEGAL REFUSE DUMPING

The Lagos State Government has secured the conviction of thirteen individuals before a Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, for offences relating to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in violation of environmental sanitation laws.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X handle.

According to the statement, the defendants were arraigned before the court and pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

Following their guilty pleas, the court convicted and sentenced each of them to three months’ imprisonment.

“The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them. Following their guilty pleas, the court convicted and sentenced each of them to three (3) months’ imprisonment,” the statement read.

The convicted persons were identified as Jamiu Abdulkareem, Nwosu Martin, Abduljamiu Wasiu, Habeeb Muhammed, Kolawole Elijah, Anum Musa, Adeniyi Jamiu, Taiwo Olaniyi, Ali Muhammed, Paul Yaya, Damilare Adebowale, Ojo Fatai and Abah Musa.

The state government said the convictions underscore its commitment to strict enforcement of environmental sanitation laws and its resolve to maintain a clean and healthy environment across Lagos State.

It added that the action serves as a deterrent to residents who violate waste disposal regulations and contribute to environmental degradation.
