LASRRA WARNS AGENTS AGAINST CHARGING RESIDENTS FOR REGISTRATION

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency has warned its registration agents against collecting fees from residents, stressing that LASRRA registration is completely free.
The General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, issued the warning on Thursday during a community sensitisation programme in Ajah, Lagos, urging residents to report any agent who demands payment for the service.
Adebiyi-Abiola said the agency maintained a zero-tolerance policy for agents who collected money from residents, noting that registration was a free service provided by the Lagos State Government.
She encouraged residents to report erring agents to LASRRA for appropriate disciplinary action, insisting that there was no justification for charging residents.

The LASRRA boss also disclosed that the agency had intensified community-based registration by taking its services to communities, schools and vaccination centres to make the exercise more accessible.
She explained that registration begins from birth and revealed that LASRRA had upgraded its software and devices to enable the registration of newborns without the need for physical handling.
According to her, LASRRA currently has about seven million residents in its database and is implementing measures to increase the figure.
She said the agency had commenced collaboration with the Office of Education Quality Assurance to extend registration to private schools, while pupils in public schools were already required to have LASRRA registration.
Adebiyi-Abiola added that the agency was also targeting markets, offices and other communities, noting that lack of awareness and the busy lifestyles of Lagos residents had contributed to low registration.
She stressed that LASRRA registration was important as residents needed identification to access various Lagos State Government services and programmes.
She further disclosed that LASRRA had secured 50 slots at the ongoing Lagos State Trade Fair for registered residents as part of efforts to showcase the benefits of being captured in the state’s residents’ database.
Reacting, the monarch of Okun Ajah Kingdom, Oba Kolawole Olumegbon, commended LASRRA for taking its sensitisation campaign directly to residents.
Olumegbon said the registration had helped the government better understand the needs of communities and plan infrastructure and social amenities accordingly.
He urged residents who were yet to register to do so and encouraged those already captured to enlighten others about the benefits of LASRRA registration.
