LASU APPOINTS NEW CHANCELLOR

The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel Fanu.

Oba Ogunsanwo succeeds Gbolahan Elias, who served as the fifth Chancellor of the university.

According to the statement, the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which vests the Visitor with the authority to appoint the Chancellor of the university.

A statement issued by the university said the Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.

The statement noted that the appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of Gbolahan Elias (SAN), who served as the fifth Chancellor of the university.

It added that the new Chancellor will serve a single five-year term, effective from February 13, 2026, with the option of one renewal.

The management and governing council of Lagos State University congratulated Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo on his appointment, expressing confidence that his leadership would further advance the university’s vision and mission.

The statement also conveyed the institution’s appreciation to Gbolahan Elias for his meritorious service during his tenure as Chancellor.
