MOBILE COURT CONVICTS 33 YEAR-OLD MAN FOR BREACH OF PEACE, THEFT OF CCTV CAMERA

A mobile court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, has convicted a 33-year-old man for breach of peace and theft of an installed CCTV camera belonging to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road axis.
The defendant, identified as Samson Silas from Adamawa, was apprehended by officers of the Airport Police Command at approximately 10:40 p.m. on the 24th of May, 2026, and charged accordingly for breach of peace within the Murtala Mohammed Airport Road axis, damaging the CCTV camera belonging to FAAN and stealing the CCTV camera belonging to FAAN.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the three-count charges against him, while the presiding Magistrate, F. J. Adefioye, convicted and sentenced the defendant accordingly.
On the first count charge bordering on breach of peace, he was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. On the second count charge, he was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for damaging the CCTV camera belonging to FAAN. On the third count charge, he was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for theft of the CCTV camera. The sentences are to run concurrently.
In his remarks, the Magistrate stated that offences committed in and around the airport corridor carry heightened consequences due to their impact on the national image and passengers’ safety. “The Murtala Mohammed International Airport is a gateway to Nigeria. Destructive and criminal conduct within these axes will be met with immediate legal response,” he stated.
The Magistrate added that swift adjudication serves both deterrence and public confidence in the judicial system.
The Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court Coordinator, Mr. Olufemi Adekunle reaffirmed that the mobile court remains active and responsive to all matters within the ambit of its mandate. He disclosed further that over 40 cases of public infrastructure interference have been prosecuted by the mobile court in the first quarter of this 2026 alone.
