Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes has disclosed what he told Cristiano Ronaldo following the forward’s reported bust-up with head coach Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo reportedly left the Portugal camp ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark on Thursday after Jesus left him on the bench during the match against Croatia.
Following Ronaldo’s departure, Fernandes was handed the captain’s armband for the team.
The Manchester United midfielder has now spoken publicly about the situation, insisting that Ronaldo remains an important figure for the national team.
“I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo and told him that he is and will always remain the greatest icon of our national team and our country.
“Our national team is united, not divided.
“Matters must be resolved internally and conclude well for both parties,” Fernandes said.
