NAVY RESCUES THREE FROM SEA ROBBERS IN AKWA-IBOM

The Nigerian Navy saved three people from a possible sea robbery near the waterways in Akwa Ibom State.
This happened when the Navy team from Forward Operating Base Ibaka, part of the Eastern Naval Command, was on a regular night patrol last week.
In a statement on Monday, Navy Captain Adebowale Omotosho, the Commanding Officer of Forward Operating Base, said the team got a call at around 9:30 pm from a boat that was passing by.
The boat said there was a robbery happening near the Mbendoro waters.
The statement said, “The naval team rushed to the spot and rescued a boat carrying tomatoes and its three people.”
“The patrol team responded after receiving a distress alert at about 9:30 p.m. from a passing boat reporting an ongoing sea robbery attack around the Mbendoro waters.”
The Navy said the rescued passengers were safely escorted to the FOB Ibaka facility, noting that no injuries were recorded during the operation.
“The successful operation underscores the Eastern Naval Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and securing Nigeria’s maritime domain through sustained surveillance and rapid response operations,” the statement read.
It added that the command remained committed to combating maritime crime and ensuring a safe and secure environment for legitimate maritime users operating within the nation’s territorial waters.
