The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it had called for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign from his position.

In a statement posted on its official X account, @thenff, on Saturday, the federation described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.

The NFF stated that it had neither asked nor was asking Infantino to step down as FIFA president, stressing that the reports were completely untrue.

The clarification comes amid growing international scrutiny of Infantino’s leadership following controversy surrounding a now-abandoned proposal to sell commercial rights associated with the FIFA World Cup.

Several European football associations, including Norway, have publicly called for the FIFA President to resign, while others and the Confederation of African Football have expressed continued support.

‎Nigerian football fans reacted swiftly to the NFF’s statement on X.

‎#HenryIkwunemere wrote “We know you na. You would never. In fact, you would lay a comfortable bed and sleep with….”

‎ #WallyTTweets commented “Nobody expected you to, afterall you are NFF. Whatever Infantino has done is child’s play compared to the… here in Nigeria. Stylishly using a debunk tactics to endorse.”

#SantosTHEBOSS added “We would never believe any report that implies you were noble in the first place, no need for this rejoinder.”

‎#Dann_10, posted “See how you’re… twerking for Infantino, just so he can notice your….” As another user, #oviomeze simply noted “If you did otherwise we’d be shocked.”
