NPF DECLARES READINESS TO IMPLEMENT STATE POLICE

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed its readiness to support the implementation of state policing if it receives legal approval, assuring Nigerians that professionalism, accountability and operational efficiency will remain the foundation of the proposed policing structure.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun gave the assurance while declaring open a one-day sensitisation workshop on state policing organised by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS).
According to the IGP, the workshop was designed to equip police personnel with the knowledge and capacity needed to engage meaningfully in discussions on state policing and prepare them for any future reforms in the country’s policing system.
He urged participants to make the most of the training and ensure the knowledge acquired is shared with officers in their respective commands and formations to promote a common understanding of the proposed reform across the Force.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies, Prof. Olu Ogunshakin, commended the Inspector-General for establishing the Nigeria Police Force Steering Committee on State Police.
He disclosed that several recommendations made by the committee have already been incorporated into the proposed State Police Bill, describing the development as a major step towards advancing Nigeria’s policing reforms.
The workshop forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to prepare its personnel for emerging reforms, enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen public confidence in policing.
