The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged the Federal Government and the Katsina State Government to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the killing of Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masusuka, and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Monday, the council’s president, Comrade Isah Abubakar, condemned the killing, describing it as a serious attack on Islamic scholarship and the moral values of Northern Nigeria.
Reports indicated that Sheikh Masusuka was shot dead by gunmen riding on a motorcycle at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday in front of his residence in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

His friend, Adamu Abubakar, was also killed during the attack. Both men were reportedly rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The Katsina State Police Command said investigations had commenced, with security operatives working to apprehend the perpetrators. However, the identities of the attackers and their motive had yet to be established, according to the available reports.
Reacting to the incident, the NYCN described the late cleric as a respected Islamic scholar and mentor whose teachings of the Holy Qur’an had influenced many people, particularly young people across the North.
The council maintained that his death represented more than the loss of an individual, describing it as an attack on religious scholarship, truth and the values that uphold society.
It also expressed concern over what it called the persistent culture of impunity surrounding high-profile killings in Nigeria, urging the authorities to demonstrate their commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring accountability.
The NYCN called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing, including possible security lapses and any wider conspiracy that might emerge from the findings.
It further urged investigators to identify not only those who carried out the attack but also anyone who may have financed, planned or facilitated the crime.
The council stressed that justice would remain incomplete if only the immediate perpetrators were arrested while other individuals found to be involved were allowed to escape accountability.
“The era of empty promises, superficial condolence messages and decorative investigative committees is over,” the council said, calling on the authorities to demonstrate the political will to ensure that everyone responsible was brought to justice.
The NYCN pledged to monitor the investigation and urged both federal and state authorities to ensure that the case was not abandoned.
The council also prayed for the repose of the deceased cleric’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant comfort and strength to his family, associates and followers.
It called on security agencies to act swiftly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings and prevent similar attacks on religious leaders and other citizens.
