Ubochi was reportedly killed after attending a prayer session and endorsement of All Progressives Grand Alliance candidates on Monday, August 17, 2026.

According to reports, the elderly man was attacked while returning home from the gathering. His body was later discovered along a bush path and reportedly dumped inside a stream in a thick forest.

The police confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying Ubochi left his residence on August 17 but failed to return home.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the deceased’s body was discovered the following day along a bush path within the community.

Police operatives who visited the scene evacuated the body to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead before being deposited in the morgue.

Ukandu said the command had commenced a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.

He urged anyone with useful information that could assist the investigation to contact the police, assuring residents that all necessary measures would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, the APGA House of Representatives candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Tochukwu Ogalagu, condemned the killing and called for calm among his supporters.

Ogalagu described Ubochi’s death as painful, alleging that the octogenarian had been attacked shortly after participating in the prayer session and endorsement of APGA candidates.

He said Ubochi was reportedly healthy and active during the gathering and was captured on camera participating in the proceedings.

According to the candidate, the elderly man was travelling home alone when he was allegedly waylaid and killed, while his family searched for him before his body was eventually discovered.

Ogalagu said the police had been informed of the incident and urged APGA supporters to remain calm and vigilant while investigations continued.
