Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has declared his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election, while maintaining that he remains in favour of the policies being implemented by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on the political landscape ahead of the next general election, Omo-Agege said his endorsement of Obi should not be interpreted as opposition to the current administration’s policy direction. According to him, it is possible to support a candidate’s leadership aspirations while acknowledging the merits of certain government initiatives.
He noted that several of Tinubu’s reforms and policy measures are necessary for addressing long-standing economic and governance challenges, adding that backing Obi’s potential presidential bid does not diminish his support for policies he believes are beneficial to the country.
The former deputy senate president stressed the need for Nigerians to evaluate political leaders and public policies on their individual merits rather than through partisan considerations alone.
His remarks come amid increasing political realignments and consultations among key stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gradually gather momentum.
Omo-Agege’s position is expected to generate debate within political circles, particularly as discussions intensify over possible alliances and endorsements ahead of the next electoral cycle.
