POLICE ARREST 135 SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVER 26 FIREARMS IN LAGOS CRACKDOWN

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered 26 firearms during coordinated raids across criminal hideouts and black spots in the state to prevent cult-related violence associated with the annual 7/7 cult celebration and initiation.
The operation, carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, involved Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders and operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acting on credible intelligence.
According to the police, the raids were launched following intelligence reports that rival cult groups were planning attacks and other criminal activities linked to the 7/7 celebration.
Items recovered during the operation included 26 firearms, 16 dangerous weapons comprising cutlasses, battle axes, daggers and knives, cult insignia, assorted charms, 11 bottles of different alcoholic brands, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, as well as six mobile phones.
The command said investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the criminal gangs involved in the planned attacks.
It added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing cult-related violence and ensuring the safety of residents across Lagos State.
