POLICE ARREST FOUR AS FARM DISPUTE TURNS FATAL IN BAUCHI

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four persons following a farm dispute that claimed one life in Kumba Village, Sama District of the Burra Emirate in Ningi Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2026, and was reportedly triggered by a disagreement over the dumping of weeds on farmland.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute began after Yakubu Mai-Duna, 47, allegedly dumped weeds from his farm onto the farmland of Kabiru Yusuf, 40. Both men are residents of Kumba Village.

According to the command, the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation involving the two farmers and their children.

Police alleged that Kabiru Yusuf and his three sons—Abdulrazak Yusuf, 25, Safiyanu Kabiru, 20, and Salisu Kabiru, 15—attacked Mai-Duna and another resident, Usman Gagare, 48, who had intervened to separate the fighting parties.

Officers from the Burra Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call, arrested the suspects and rushed the injured victims to the Primary Health Care Centre in Yada-Gungume for treatment.

Mai-Duna later died while receiving medical care, while Gagare was treated and discharged.

The police said the suspects are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing grievous harm and culpable homicide.

The command added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully instead of resorting to violence.

He encouraged members of the public to embrace dialogue and lawful means of settling disagreements, warning against taking the law into their own hands.

The commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, assuring residents that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The command further appealed to the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report criminal activities to security agencies.
